A Perfect Day in Tarrytown: Your Ultimate Guide

If you haven’t explored Tarrytown as an Austin local, consider this your guide to a perfect day in this beautiful neighborhood. As a Tarrytown resident myself, I’m excited to share some of my favorite spots and activities in the area.

Watch the Video Tour

For a more immersive experience, watch our YouTube video tour of Tarrytown! See all these amazing spots in action and get a feel for the neighborhood’s charm and beauty.

Start Your Day at Littlefield’s

To kick off the day, head over to Littlefield’s for some coffee and food. Littlefield’s is a community gathering space where you’ll find people from all over enjoying the outdoor patio. The fully enclosed yard, shaded by mature live oak trees, is perfect for breakfast or a leisurely morning. You can grab a bite at Veracruz or Goldy’s—both offer delicious options. Personally, I recommend the crusted hash brown with avocado and tomatoes or a little baby cheddar sausage biscuit.

Need a sweet pick-me-up or a tasty gift for a friend? Check out Cookie Rich for their curvy cookie sandwiches.

Explore Laguna Gloria and Mayfield Park

After breakfast, make your way to Laguna Gloria, also known as the Contemporary Austin. This location features beautifully landscaped grounds and a unique sculpture experience right on the banks of Lake Austin. It’s a serene spot perfect for a morning stroll.

Right next door is Mayfield Park, a 21-acre nature oasis with walking trails, a historic cottage, koi ponds, and, yes, peacocks! The peacocks are a must-see and add to the park’s charm.

Discover Tarrytown’s Architectural Styles

Tarrytown is a fun neighborhood with a mix of architectural styles. As you walk through the neighborhood, you’ll notice the quiet streets, hills, and views of Lake Austin. Here are three architectural styles you can spot:

1920s and 30s Cottages: These homes maintain historic charm with asymmetrical facades, steeply pitched roofs, and prominent chimneys.

Colonial Revival: Characterized by symmetrical facades, gable roofs, and classical details like columns.

Contemporary: Modern homes with sleek designs, geometric shapes, and innovative building materials are becoming increasingly popular.

Enjoy Parks, Trails, and Green Spaces

Tarrytown offers plenty of parks, trails, and green spaces. One of my family’s favorite activities is hopping on the Johnson Creek Trail. This trail is about three miles to downtown Austin and offers so much to see along the way.

West Enfield Park is a neighborhood favorite with playscapes, open fields, tennis courts, and a large community pool. For a quieter spot, check out Reed Park, which has a private trail along a dry creek bed, a quiet pool, and open space for the pups to run around.

Red Bud Isle: A Dog Lover’s Paradise

Red Bud Isle is an off-leash dog park and one of Goldie’s (my pup) favorite spots. Located just off Lake Austin Boulevard on the south side of Tarrytown, this area is perfect for a hike with your furry friend. Nearby, you’ll also find JuiceLand, one of the best juice spots in town, and Deep Eddy Pool, the oldest swimming pool in Texas, filled with water from natural springs.

Wrap Up Your Day at Flo’s Wine Bar + Bottle Shop

After a full day of exploring, head back into the neighborhood and relax at Flo’s Wine Bar + Bottle Shop. Enjoy a glass of wine on the patio and a slice of pizza from allday Pizza.

Tarrytown is an incredible neighborhood with so much to offer. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, I hope you enjoyed this tour of my favorite spots. Let us know if we missed anything and which neighborhood you want us to explore next. Cheers!
