    How do I figure out how much equity I have in my home?

    Equity is the amount of positive money you have in your home. To figure out your equity, you take the current market value of your home and subtract out the loan amount.     I want to buy a house too. Should I do that before or after I sell my home?

    If you can afford to buy your next home without relying on the sale of your current one, consider buying first. This option offers two key advantages.
